This journey has been four years in the making. It all started with a family photo in 2010. Where I was like, "Oh, hello, that cant' really be me!" We all have that picture. I just couldn't keep going like that so I made the change.
I began with small steps, like going to the gym. Telling people about my goals so they would help hold me accountable. Then I thought "I really should eat better". That step is still a work in progress. I mean who doesn't love ice cream!!!
The next step came when a girlfriend said that she had just run a 5K, and I remember looking at her and thinking, "WHAT??" "Really you ran a 5k." Heck I am going to run a 5k. I would like to say it happened just like that. Well it didn't. I had to start slow. I have severe asthma from 2 rounds of pneumonia and 1 round of H1N1. This running thing has come with great achievements and some set backs. The goal is to keep moving forward.
In 2013, I set of goal of completing five 5Ks. With my family and friends support I accomplished that goal and managed to do 4 more runs for a total of 9 5k's, including my first virtual run. The runs I choose always had a great purpose for the money. YMCA, Brain Cancer, Breast Cancer, a Leukemia race (for a kid on my daughters football team), a new playground, and even one for the Relief Nursery.
When 2014 rolled around and I started analyzing my goals and trying to set up some new ones. I decided I wanted to set up a virtual run from start to finish. I wanted the profits from my race to go a charity that means something personal to me. I wanted to try and show my daughter that it's not just about saying it but actually doing it.
The virtual run for the Wounded Warrior Project is important to me because it is personal. I am the granddaughter, daughter, daughter-in-law and sister-in-law of vets. I have watched the news and waited and prayed with friends and family for good news. I wanted this race to be able to help others that I can't sit with and hold their hands. I wanted to do something that would benefit those returning from military assignments, and combine it with my new found hobby of getting in shape. So that's how this race came about. All the profits of this race will be donated to Wound Warrior Project.
Why 3 Girls Running? Because we are never truly alone when we run. Whether it be my daughter, a friend that I have drug along or even just the new friends that are fellow runners. I always try to get someone to join in my fun and encourage others to run. So therefore 3 girls running.
